Human Rights

Shaping international standards for advanced technologies.

Overview

The Human Rights Horizontal Task Force (HTF) is a cross-cutting expert group within INSTAR, that exists to ensure that human rights considerations and EU values are taken into account and integrated into the standardisation priorities alignment between INSTAR and its international partners.

Objectives

The HTF analyses how human rights relate to the standardisation priorities defined by INSTAR’s six European Task Forces. It identifies where human rights considerations should be strengthened, and provides recommendations to ensure that the INSTAR Priorities for International Collaboration on Standards (PICS) can support EU-international alignment without overlooking their impact on human rights.

Task Force results

The main output is a set of “Human Rights by design” recommendations that map human rights considerations across all the INSTAR ETF PICS and propose concrete ways to make them more human rights-aligned. These recommendations will be shared with EU policymakers, ESOs and relevant industry associations to ensure that human rights considerations remain embedded when shaping joint EU-international standardisation priorities.
